The Microformer is a compact, home-use version of the Lagree Megaformer. It’s a small, portable reformer-style machine that operates on the same spring-resistance principles as the full-size Megaformer.
Despite its smaller size, the Microformer lets you perform most of the same exercises that you would on a Megaformer. Moves on the Microformer keep your muscles under constant tension, strengthening, tightening and toning them, much like a Lagree class.
Where it differs from traditional Pilates is in how it’s used. Like the Megaformer, the Microformer supports faster transitions between exercises, keeping your heart rate up and introducing a cardio element to the workout. Exercises are performed in a slow, controlled tempo that intensifies the work, rather than speeding up for cardio as in some Pilates formats.
Traditional Pilates Reformers tend to rely more on props and may not have features like a back platform or numbered carriage for precise hand and foot placement. This creates a full-body, low-impact workout that feels more intense and dynamic than a typical Pilates session while still protecting your joints.
The Megaformer is the large Lagree machine used in studios; the Microformer is its scaled-down cousin. At first glance, the differences may be obvious: the Micro is smaller, lighter and portable. It's also easy to store around the house or even under a bed. The Mega, on the other hand, is a sturdy, studio-based machine with more attachments and a larger footprint.
Functionally, the Megaformer offers an extensive range of options for a full-body workout, with multiple weighted spring loads, long and short cables and platforms for exercises in various positions (e.g., lying on your back, side or on all fours).
With the Micro, you’ll often find it easy to use the floor to adjust intensity, adding stability challenges or making moves more accessible. And while it doesn’t have built-in cables, you can still get an effective upper body workout using your own body weight or adding props like resistance bands, dumbbells or more.
